OVERVIEW

CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE FOR RESPIRATORY AND SLEEP DISORDERS

The Department provides sophisticated, compassionate, and expert care to patients suffering with Respiratory and Sleep Disorders. Quality patient care is optimized through a multidisciplinary team approach, which includes pulmonologists, nurses, physical therapists, pharmacists, nutrition specialists, and social workers. It has the capability for the evaluation & management of the entire range of acute & chronic respiratory diseases such as Asthma and respiratory allergies, COPD, ILD, Tuberculosis, Sarcoidosis, Bronchiectasis, Lung cancer, Auto immune disorders, sleep related disorders and chest wall disorders. The Department is integrated with the department of critical care in order to provide comprehensive care to patients requiring life support. A team of highly qualified intensive care specialists are available round the clock

PROCEDURAL SERVICES:

 

PULMONARY FUNCTION LABORATORY:

PFT lab is equipped with advanced Jaegers integrated system with lung diffusion, maximum inspiratory expiratory pressure and volume studies. Preoperative evaluation for patients undergoing thoracic and extrathoracic surgeries is regularly done here. Facility of bed side spirometry is also available for patients who can’t be moved to the lab.

 

VIDEO ASSISTED BRONCHOSCOPY:

Videobronchoscope and non videofibrescopes including ultrathin bronchoscope with comprehensive gadget of accessories are available both for diagnostic as well as therapeutic purposes. Non resolving radiological shadows, unexplained respiratory symptoms, blood in phlegm, foreign body aspirations, lung cancer are some of the cases where these facilities are utilized. All aspects of lung cancer diagnostics including PET scan are available at the institute.

 

ENDOBRONCHIAL ULTRASOUND (EBUS)

It is a minimally invasive but highly effective procedure used to diagnose lung cancer, infections, and other diseases causing enlarged lymph nodes in the chest. EBUS allows physicians to perform a technique known as transbronchial needle aspiration (TBNA) to obtain tissue or fluid samples from the lungs and surrounding lymph nodes without conventional surgery. The samples can be used for diagnosing and staging lung cancer, detecting infections, and identifying inflammatory diseases that affect the lungs, such as sarcoidosis or other cancers like lymphoma.

 

RADIOLOGY:

Chest Xray, Computerized tomography (CT), CT Angiography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging(MRI), Ultrasonography, Nuclear lung scanning, Pulmonary artery angiography, Positron emission tomography (PET) services are available for aiding the diagnosis of lung diseases.
